Pastor’s Corner

Well, we need only step outside and we feel the summer warmth drawing us to some well planned vacation, which will provide some rest and relaxation from our daily grind through the year. This is a good time and much needed, even the secular press speaks of the research that shows that each of us needs some vacation time from work each year.

Well, in the same line of thought we need the weekly time out or day of rest that God has given us for worship, rest and relaxation in His presence. The seventh day of the week is the day God gave us to worship Him and to reflect on His goodness and love for us.

Note the commandment and it’s statement that it is the Sabbath of the Lord our God:

Ex. 20:8 "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,

10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates.

11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

The Sabbath is not just any day, but His day! It is shared with us so that we may not only rest from our labors, but that we may be refreshed by walking in His presence at worship and in the out of doors, while hiking, walking along the shoreline or a thousand other nature activities.

Christ's purpose in parable teaching was in direct line with the purpose of the Sabbath. God gave to men the memorial of His creative power, that they might discern Him in the works of His hand. The Sabbath bids us behold in His created works the glory of the Creator. And it was because He desired us to do this that Jesus bound up His precious lessons with the beauty of natural things. On the holy rest day, above all other days, we should study the messages that God has written for us in nature. We should study the Saviour's parables where He spoke them, in the fields and groves, under the open sky, among the grass and flowers. As we come close to the heart of nature, Christ makes His presence real to us and speaks to our hearts of His peace and love. {CH 165.1}

May God bless you in this summer time and each Sabbath day as you rest in Him, who is your life, Savior and King… Pastor David Tripp

Camp Meeting

“Behold The Lamb” was the theme this year for the Potomac Conference Camp Meeting. Mark Finley spoke Friday and Saturday evenings, as well as Barry Black, Bill Miller, Dick Duerksen, Bill Kilgore and Ivan Warden to name a few. Music was provided by Potomac Praise, Wedgwood Trio and Julie Depew. In addition, Messiah’s Mansion was also there. It was an awesome experience to walk through and listen to the presentation about the Sanctuary. It puts into perspective what you learned in Sabbath School and at Church but with a whole new meaning. We are looking forward to when they come to the SouthWest Camp Meeting. It is surely not to be missed.

Congratulations!

6 week Living Free Seminar

The 6 week Living Free Seminar conducted in May and June went well. The attendees learned simple, powerful strategies to break bad habits and develop new ones, how to enrich one's environment, and enjoy new ways of thinking and living. The seminar provided practical and helpful information on nutrition, lifestyle, and addictions such as "Easy Ways to Reduce Sugar Intake", "Seven Steps to Tame Internet Addiction", "Building A Better Brain' and much more. Participants enjoyed trying new recipes each night such as Zesty Green Salad, Black Bean Salad, Great Greens, Easy Pizza, Walnut Maple Cookies, Pasta with Tofu Alfredo Sauce, and others. Small group discussions allowed participants to discuss and evaluate
information they had learned from the DVD and PowerPoint presentations and the Lifestyle Features.

The evaluations that each attendee filled out during the final session indicated that the seminar had been helpful and was worth recommending to others. The attendees all mentioned that they would absolutely share this with others and encourage them to attend other meetings. They were also very pleased with the people involved with this seminar and thought it was useful and valuable.

The Health Ministries Team wishes to thank all the volunteers who helped us in so many ways--preparing the recipes, cleaning up, encouraging us, praying for us, etc.
